letterboxd top four 🎬🎀
i gave in and finally downloaded letterboxd... i can say i am obsessed and feel years late to the game at the same time.
i wanted to do a littttttle deep dive into my top four because they absolutely do not match but do in some weird way. i wouldn't say these are my favorite four movies but i do love them & they look aesthetically pleasing together. i'd like to say they're all about girls finding their way in the world.. kind of.
1- Priscilla (2023 by Sofia Coppola)
Ignoring the elvis aspect of the entire thing... God, i love Cailee as Priscilla. a beautiful girl playing a heartbreakingly beautiful role. i actively forget this movie even involved elvis because i focus so much on her, the young girl finding her way in love and in the world. a girl who tries so hard to be someone else for someone else and finally realizes it's okay to just be her.
2- The Bling Ring (2013 by Sofia Coppola)
On the other side of Sofia's excellence (but ten years ago) we have the chaotic bling ring. surprisingly, both of her movies on this list are after real events or people. i couldn't even blame the bling ring. they saw paris hilton's closet and forgot the law existed. tbh, i would too. ps- i swear i dont condone burglary!
3- The Parent Trap (1998 by Nancy Meyers0
Oh this one has such a special place in my heart. i know you all saw that video of Elaine Hendrix on tiktok a couple years back explaining Meredith Blake's reasoning against the girls. honestly she had me on her side for a sec! but seriously, this movie perfectly combines that nostaglic camp feeling along with ranchy california and classy london. there's also like three parts in one, like chapters kind of. we have the opening iconic camp scene, then the storylines of annie and hallie being switched in cali and london, and finally the whole thing of switching back, going camping with their dad and meredith, ruining their engagement, etc. i'm not saying the girls were completely in the right, but it is such a cute movie.
4- Legally Blonde (2001 by Robert Luketic)
i kinda hate that these movies are directed by men.. because they got it down to a T almost??? yes, they did the standard 'girl in pink' thing. but it's not about THAT. it's about patriarchy. men are appraised for everything they do while women have to work their heels off to get an ounce of recognition. she didn't have to become anyone else to do it either. elle woods is and always has been an icon and a role model.
